Bookbinding at Grey Projects

Grey Projects, located in Tiong Bahru, is the brainchild of artist Jason Wee. It is an arts space that includes two galleries, a library, a working studio, and a live-in residence. Their programming focuses on residency and exchange, publication, and exhibition.

Grey Projects’ current show is Print Lab. The gallery space has been transformed into a giant newsstand and showcases self-published zines and books created by artists, designers, architects, and students. The publications are created by individuals and collectives with a widely varying amount of experience in book making. The eclectic collection of zines and books, printed in small edition, are also all for sale.

In conjunction with Print Lab, I will be conducting a one-day, three-hour book arts workshop, “The Long Stitch,” in which participants will master two variations of a long stitch—with a slotted wrapper cover and with a chain/link stitch. The long stitch technique is a sturdy, distinctive binding that dates all the way back to medieval Germany and allows the spine to lie flat.

So, join me at Grey Projects (6B Kim Tian Road) on Saturday, October 17th from 11am to 2pm. SG$60.00 per person, and all materials and a set of tools are included. To register, send your name and contact number to, with the subject line, “Bookbinding Workshop.” There are limited spaces, so sign up now!
