In October, paper company Grandluxe, founded in 1942 in Singapore, opened Bynd Artisan, a retail shop and atelier, way out in Boon Lay.
Winnie Chan, the business’ third generation owner, created Bynd Artisan and launched with a luxury line of stationery. Bynd Artisan ready-to-write collection, a “lifestyle” brand, includes leather-bound journals and leather-crafted office and desk accessories (binders, tablet cases, luggage tags, business card sleeves, etc.).
But it is Bynd Artisan’s signature product, a custom-made notebook for which customers choose from an array of papers, covers, and closures, that makes a visit to this shop a unique experience. For SG$20.00, a master binder crafts the one-of-a-kind notebook on the spot in under 30 minutes!
I hope to sign up for a leather goods or paper product-making classes (every Saturday from 1:30pm to 4:30pm for SG$78.00) conducted by master artist Chong Beng Cheng.
Bynd Artisan currently has “popped-up” at Tangs for the holidays; the store has a limited selection of its products.
