Join Yu-Mei Balasingamchow, co-author of Singapore: A Biography, for “What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Singapore History and Heritage” at BooksActually (9 Yong Siak St.) on Wednesday, May 21 at 7:30pm. I will be moderating.
In the last five years, Singapore has seen a surge in interest in local history, as well as activism around heritage issues. What are the reasons for this new—or is it a renewed—interest in history? What is it that people are really trying to “remember”, and what is the effect of all this on the understanding of Singapore history, culture, and identity as a result?
Come, and talk about the (hi)stories that get written over, that don’t get consumed, that are not easy to tell.
“What We Don’t Talk About When We Talk About Singapore History and Heritage” part of BooksActually’s popular Well-Informed Wednesday series. RSVP here, if you are on Facebook.
See you next week!
