Tiong Bahru Estate

At last night’s meet-up, we shared our inspirations. “Books,” “travel,” and “nature” were mentioned many times. Of course, on my list: urbanism and architecture.

I find myself in Tiong Bahru Estate more often than not. It’s walking distance from our apartment—about a kilometer and a half—and it serves as the perfect location for a late afternoon stroll. And, you all know I’m a sucker for Art Deco. Tiong Bahru Estate, one of the oldest housing estates in Singapore, is actually Art Moderne, a late Art Deco style emphasizing smooth surfaces, curved corners, and long horizontal lines.

A few photographs from today’s saunter:

So, what are your inspirations?

  1. @bookjunkie, I *wish* I lived in Tiong Bahru. I think there are some flats available for rent to foreigners like me. I am so jealous of those who own flats here.
