While visiting the Istana on Chinese New Year, I discovered a series of sidewalk carvings on Orchard Road along Istana Park, just northwest of Dhoby Ghaut MRT Station. The carvings—of strawberries, bananas, rambutans, starfruits, and more—are a nod to Orchard Road’s history as a road to nutmeg, pepper and fruit orchards.
My first instinct was to make rubbings of these delightful street markers, but I had neither a stick of charcoal nor a sheet of paper large enough. Maybe on my next walk in the area? In the meantime, two photographs.
